Society of Chiefs of Radiology at Children's Hospitals
Mission and History:
The Society of Chiefs of Radiology at Children's Hospitals (SCORCH) was established in 1988 to provide a forum for the Chiefs (chairs, acting chairs) of Radiology at Children’s Hospitals to learn, discuss, and address concerns specifically related to management issues associated with radiology in children's hospitals. The group has been meeting annually since the first meeting in 1988. Currently, SCORCH is comprised of around 90 Chiefs/Chairs from Canada and the United States who are the primary decision-makers in providing excellence in pediatric imaging.

SCORCH membership criteria are as follows:
- All departments of radiology in Children’s Hospitals in the United States and Canada are eligible for membership in the Society. Each department (or its equivalent) shall be represented by one member: its chief, acting chief*, or vice chief* (or its equivalent). *Eligible to serve as the representative when the chief/chair role is to be filled. If there is an acting chief appointed, the vice chief should not serve as the representative.
- The institution is the member, with the chief, chair, or equivalent serving as the institution's representative. An institution can only have one representative.
- The representative must be an SPR member.
- The department/division/section has a minimum of 3 FTE positions for that location/hospital intended for radiologists practicing pediatric radiology (include oneself in count). The FTE positions must be funded by the institution holding SCORCH membership for which one is serving as its representative – i.e., the positions are not shared and, therefore, funded by another institution. - Note: If the practice has 3 FTEs slotted but, due to attrition, has 2 pediatric radiologists and intends to seek to fill the position, the practice remains eligible.
- Must have an organizational structure where the representative has a leadership role
- Must have decision-making input regarding hiring/retention/budgetary/financial responsibilities
Note: The last point is somewhat flexible, as many members do not control all aspects of the listed items.
Visit the SPR Member Input webpage for the application details.
